Week Starting 01 February 2010
Feb 1st Newsletter
Ah February; days are getting longer, snow is (hopefully) but a long-distant memory and spring is starting to appear on the horizon. Let's enjoy these facts before we get too panicked about the prospect of Valentine's Day, and simply settle into a week of things to look forward to. This time around we've got food, theatre, stand-up comedy and even a place to help you get fit (noone can accuse us of lacking versatility!). So no need for further blurb; let's see what The Good Time Guide recommends this week...
|
Monday - Start the Week with a Free Coffee at Cafe Floral, West Byfleet |
If you've got that 'start-of-the-week' feeling, we can recommend a wonderful little coffee shop for you to shake yourself back to life: Cafe Floral. With a real independent feel and lovely decor and atmosphere, it's a world away from the chain coffee shops dominating the landscape, and has a far better array of delicious food too! Not only this, but with your ever-wonderful Good Time Guide Offer Card you get a free hot drink with any sandwich bought! So you can enjoy your Monday morning coffee knowing smugly it didnt cost you a thing; and that's lunch sorted! Wednesday - You Must be Stoking! The Stoke, Guildford |
Sponsored by our good selves! The first Wednesday of every month is The Stoke's You Must be Stoking, an evening of stand-up that we're proud to have an affiliation with! This month, George Egg tops the bill, and as a man who's been hailed as "...a Tommy Cooper for the twenty first century", we think that this could be the best £9 you've spent this week! With a line-up also boasting the fantabulous Mackenzie Taylor and Adrian Mackinder, and of course regular resident MC Paul Kerensa, get ready for some mid-week belly laughs! Thursday - The Crown and Cushion, Haslemere |
For those of you who aren't familiar with Haslemere, we can recommend one fiendeshly versatile and excellent location for you to help get acquainted with this fantastic village. That place is The Crown and Cushion , which serves as a pub, music venue and restaurant (and does all three very well, might we add!). But we're here to emphasise the qualities of the restaurant, as following a mini chain of disasters (snow, then floods) this element of The Crown of Cushion has gone somewhat overlooked. Needless to say, they have a classically trained chef with years of international experience, so we can guarantee their food will be top notch! From pies and fish & chips to frequently changing haute cuisine using amazing ingredients, there's something for everyone here!

Friday - PanGottic's 'Full Twist' at Farnham Maltings |
PanGottic are a young Bristol-based company that strive to stretch the boundaries between circus and physical theatre, so expect a lively evening out at Farnham Maltings this Friday! They'll be performing 'Full Twist', a wordless theatrical piece that studies the love lives of two bumbling, clown-like couples as they go through the stages of long-term romance in their own naive and unique way. With a strong emphasis on physical theatre and visual elements, this will be a bizarrely heart-warming and exciting performance that you're not likely to forget in a hurry! 'Full Twist' starts at 8pm; call 01252 745444 for the box office and click here for more listings from Farnham Maltings.

Saturday - The Hobbit at The Theatre, Leatherhead |
|
Yes you read right; a stage performance of Tolkein's finest! You probably know the tale, but in case you don't here's what The Theatre have to say about it: "Bilbo Baggins, a quiet and contented Hobbit, has his life turned upside down when he is chosen by Gandalf the Sorcerer to join Thorin Oakenshield, exiled king of the Dwarves, on his quest to reclaim their kingdom and treasure." Not the kind of subject matter that you'd usually associate with the theatre, but this will have an abundance of magical touches, with great special effects throughout! The perfect way to entertain the family (let's face it; you have a young son, he's going to love this) this Saturday! Click here for times, tickets and more info!

Sunday - Anderson's Restaurant, Farnham |
|
If you fancy going out for a Sunday lunch, we can heartily recommend Andersons Restaurant in Farnham. They have some of the best and friendliest service around, as well as some fantastic, classicly British dishes. As well as all this, though, Anderson's have a unique selling point; they specialise in catering for those with particular dietary requirements, such as coeliac's or those with a dairy intolerance. As a result, give them the time to prepare and they can make a number of off-the-menu dishes! Remember to visit during the week as well; Monday, Wednesday and Friday lunchtime sees two courses for £9.95! Click here to find out more and to book your table now!
