Week Starting 03 August 2009

A Whole New Month of Fun

Yes, that's right.  A whole new month has arrived.  August to be exact.  31 days of fun in the sun!  And if there is no sun there will definitely be fun, as we have a month of entertainment highlights lined up for you.  With four instalments of The Good Time Guide Weekly News set to come your way before the month is out, there is so much to tell you about that we don't know where to start.  As such we shall start at the beginning.  Week One - August 3rd!  Starting with dinner at Villa Bianca on Monday and Farmers Market Heaven on Tuesday, to the Comedy of You Must Be Stoking on Wednesday and Cocktails at Fahrenheit 55 on Thursday; Friday is dedicated to Open Mic Night at The Lightbox, with Boating on Saturday and a fantabulous Chilli Fiesta on Sunday.  What a week, what a month!  May August be full of Good Times for all x

Monday - Discover Somewhere New
At our happiest when we can tell you about great new listings on The Good Time Guide, this week we bring news of Villa Bianca in Frimley. Over the last 20 years, the privately owned and independently run Villa Bianca has established itself as one of the finest Italian restaurants around, offering superb Italian cuisine within a gloriously relaxed and welcoming setting. Situated in the heart of Frimley Village, and a mere 2 minute walk from the station, they also offer a fantastic take away service. So whether you want to start the week with a relaxed meal out or a delicious takeaway at home, Villa Bianca is your destination.

Tuesday - Head to the Market
Another month, another market! Here at The Good Time Guide HQ we love a farmers market and are always more than happy to tell you where you should be heading in order to stock up on fresh, local produce. And this week the market is in Guildford. Head to Guildford High Street on Tuesday 4th August to get your fix of farmer's market heaven! But if you can't make it to Guildford on Tuesday, then why not visit Cranleigh Farmers Market on Friday 7th August or Milford Farmers Market on Sunday 9th August? To find out more, go online.

Wednesday - You Must Be Stoking
Yes, it's back. The Stoke's monthly instalment of comedy - 'You Must Be Stoking', - is set to return on Wednesday 5th August. 'You Must Be Stoking' takes place on the first Wednesday of every month at The Stoke. Doors open at 19.30 and the show starts at 20.00. Tickets are £9 on the door, or £7 if you've reserved them in advance - to reserve tickets email The Stoke. This month's line-up includes Lee Mack, Jude Simpson and resident MC Paul Kerensa. If you can't make this month's show, keep your eyes on the website for details on the next three shows, taking place on September 2nd, October 7th and November 4th.

Thursday - Cocktails at Fahrenheit 55
Hidden away down a tiny side street, only moments from the High Street, this really is one of Guildford best kept secrets. Right in the centre of Guildford, Fahrenheit 55 is a unique tapas bar which offers great food, a wide selection of drinks - including a large range of cocktails and shooters, live music and above all an amazing atmosphere. And as they are currently offering subscribers to The Good Time Guide Offer Card the amazing deal of buy one get one free on Cocktails, it is also the perfect venue to get the weekend started early.

Friday - Open Mic Night at The Lightbox
Poetry, Theatre, Musings – your contributions are wanted to launch the first open mic night at The Lightbox, taking place on Friday 7th August. "Come and join us for wine and verse on a relaxed summer evening. Followed by a rehearsed reading by the Lynchpin Theatre; The Tiniest Poem in the World, a play by Gareth Strachan". Spaces to read are limited so please contact louise.emberson@thelightbox.org.uk to book a slot.

Saturday - On The River
Despite the recent run of VERY wet weather, we are officially in the middle of British Summer Time. Unpredictable & sometimes more like winter, yes! But it's here and we better enjoy it before it departs for good! Well, look no further than one of our favourite summer time destinations – Guildford Boat House. What could be more summery than an afternoon's rowing on the river? You can arrange to hire rowing boats & canoes either by the hour or the day. You will be an expert in no time! For further information visit Guildford Boat House. And when you’re finished on the water, why not head back to dry land and enjoy a civilized drink at The Weyside. Happy days.

Sunday - Chilli Fiesta
Yes it's one of those months again. When we suggest the unthinkable and advise that you leave the Mother Land – Surrey – and visit another County! Taking place on August 8th & 9th, the West Dean Chilli Fiesta has been running since 1995 and brings devoted chilli fanatics from all over the world. There are chilli growing and cooking demonstrations and tastings galore ranging from the mild to the very hot chilli sauces, jellies, salsas, chutneys, relishes, marinades, nuts and crisps. Even chilli chocolate, chilli ice cream, chilli beer and chilli fruit juices are all on sale. And if the heat gets too much you can always chill out in the beer and cider tents whilst listening to the salsa, cumbia and lambada sounds from the Latin Fiesta band. For further information, go online!
