Tis' The Week of GuilFest 2009!

And here at The Good Time Guide HQ we are mammothly excited (mammoth excitement being excitement equal to the size of a woolly mammoth).  So excited we don't know where to start.  Therefore we shall start with Monday, when we bring you advanced warning of The Electric Theatre Summer Film Festival; Tuesday when we bring you news of the super stylish new Shardana sun terrace; Wednesday when we bring you news of The Stand Up Comedy Club at Farnham Maltings and Thursday when we bring you news of The Italian Market in Woking!  Yes, we have four whole days of entertainment lined up for you before the epic that is GuilFest 2009 gets underway on Friday.  And what an epic it is!  Three days of musical entertainment delight!  Three days of happiness and joy - well that is what we envisage anyway!  It is going to be spectacular!  So read on and let the GOOD TIMES ROLL!

Monday - The Electric Theatre Summer Film Festival
Calling all films lovers - we Bring you advanced warning of the Electric Theatre Summer Film Festival. Read on, choose your films and book your tickets now! As Guildford's leading venue for classic, art house and world cinema, The Electric Theatre is excited to bring you details of its Summer Film Festival. Tuesday - Al Fresco Dining
Already established as one of Guilford's best restaurants, Shardana has now emerged as one of the town's best summer venues, with the addition of the new sun terrace. With room for numerous diners, the tables shaded by large umbrellas, it is the perfect location to enjoy the best of the summer sunshine. Open for lunch, dinner and drinks, make sure you pay Shardana a visit soon.
 
Wednesday - The Stand Up Comedy Club
The Stand Up Comedy Club returns to Farnham Maltings on 8th July, with Jimmy McGhie, Rick Right & Simon Evans. Jimmy is one of the fastest rising young comics on the comedy circuit today. Rick Right: The Rock & Roll Comic still rocks on! No artist who has ever charted, good or bad, is safe from Rick’s barbs. Simon Evans: He dresses smartly, uses no bad language whatsoever... he can raise an eyebrow Jack Benny would have been proud of! Thursday - The Italian Market Comes to Town
On Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July, Woking plays host to the annual Italian Market. With bread, cheese, cured meats and pasta, marinated olives and pickles, dry fruits, spices and nuts, a wine stall, biscuits & pasticceria, nougats and torrone, a variety of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, jams and marmalades and a Sicilian delicatessen serving fresh sausage & porchetta sandwiches, if you love food you will love this market!
 
Friday - GuilFest 2009
Finally it is here! GuilFest 2009! And just to add to the already HUGE excitement around the event, we can confirm that this year The Good Time Guide will be sponsoring the KidZone. Excitement abounds! So to give you a flavour of things to come, read on for a rundown of the weekends activities. Now in its 18th year, GuilFest attracts up to 20,000 visitors each day and has truly established itself as one of the UK's leading festivals. Not too big, not too small, GuilFest remains an independently run festival with a very friendly atmosphere, held in the beautiful surroundings of Stoke Park. With its 150 foot beer tent and calypso cocktail bar, an extensive KidZone and well maintained toilet trailers (essential at any festival!), GuilFest caters for young and old alike, from local visitors wanting to just come for the day, to families from further afield camping for a 3 day mini holiday! With Motorhead headlining the main stage on the Friday evening, and with over 70 live acts taking to the various stages throughout the day, let the good times begin!
 
Saturday - GuilFest 2009
Saturday sees The Rock Choir, The Dolly Rockers, Florence Rawlings, Trans-Global Underground, Linda Lewis, Toploader, Athlete and The Charlatans take to the Main Stage before the legendary Brian Wilson headlines the main stage in the evening. With Joe Bonamassa headlining on the Ents24 Stage, Kylesa headlining on The Rocksound Cave Stage, Pendulum (DJ Set with MC Jakes) topping the bill at The Funky End Dance Tent and a whole host of other acts stepping forth to entertain you across eight stages, Saturday is set to be an EPIC day of entertainment! Sunday - GuilFest 2009
Sunday 12th July. GuilFest. Day Three. MEGA ENTERTAINMENT! From The Happy Monday's headlining on the Main Stage, Will Young headlining on the Ents24 Stage, The King Blues headlining on the Rock Sound Stage and DJ Yoda at the Funky End Tent, this is just the tip of the Iceberg in a day of amazing music and entertainment. Tip of The Week

Kingston Regatta and River Festival

For those of you who aren't heading to this year's GuilFest, we have another suggestion to keep you busy over the weekend. Taking place on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July, Kingston Regatta and River Festival is a fun packed day out by the river! Hundreds of local, national and even international schools and clubs compete at Kingston Regatta; racing every four minutes in 300 races all day Saturday and Sunday. Spectators can enjoy all of the excitement from public enclosure on Barge Walk and viewing on the riverbank and Riverside Walk. Plus free riverside music and entertainment along with fantastic historic boat displays. How very civilized!
