Week Starting 08 February 2010

Feb 8th Newsletter

Welcome one and all to your weekly update of things to do in Surrey! Now this week as you all know is Valentine's Day, a day that will cause you to behave with uninhibited glee or to make you do a kind of grumbling noise and a scowling glance downwards. For the latter, rejoice! We're not going to cover Sunday's proceedings in any depth on this weekly newsletter, but don't be too shocked; expect a special Valentine's Day Newsflash very soon indeed! In this special edition newsflash, we'll be giving you a list of recommendations should you be stuck on where to take your loved one, so don't panic. But for this weekly Newsletter, let The Good Time Guide show you the non-Valentine way...

Monday - Loch Fyne, Farnham
Looking upon the Farnham landscape, there's certainly no shortage of choice for places to visit. Fancy a bite to eat? Then look no further than Loch Fyne. While now a hugely successful national chain, the wonderful old (might we add converted) schoolhouse will give you the atmosphere of a unique fish eatery.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Loch Fyne brand, they've been highly praised for their sustainable fishing methods, and it's worth noting that their food hasn't been received too badly either! Very reasonably priced and hugely varied, every conceivable fish dish is on show here, and you can eat your bit of hallibut safe in the knowledge that you're not harming the environment. An offer with a well-known national brand? But of course; 25% off your food no less! Best get a Good Time Guide Offer Card if you haven't got one yet, eh?

Tuesday - Romeo and Juliet at The Holy Trinity Church, Guildford
If you've frequented Guildford over the past few weeks, you may have seen the poster for this particular theatrical event. Let us fill you in: The Guildford Shakespeare Company are putting on an indoors production after four years of open air performances, and this year it'll be at the Holy Trinity Church on Guildford High Street. It runs from Friday 5th til the Saturday 20th February, but we thought we'd fill you in on an earlier performance, so if you miss this one there's still ample opportunity to go!

As you'll see, these guys are pretty adept at performing the works of the greatest ever bard, as the rave reviews of last years 'Taming of the Shrew' will attest to, and this will be their first indoor performance (probably best given the weather). Click here to get hold of your ticket and find out just a little more on this great group of actors.

Wednesday - Carlo's Trattoria, Newland's Corner
Located on the outskirts of Guildford, the first thing you'll notice about Carlo's Trattoria is how beautiful the interior is, but don't be fooled by the modern feel; this is a classic Italian Trattoria and therefore retains the warm and inviting atmosphere.

Boasting fresh fish imported daily and an ever-changing rosta of specials, the little impressed noise you make when you first go in won't be the first of the evening! Click here to see what we mean. Moreover, the extended bar area is perfect for drinks on arrival or for mingling after your meal, so you can quite happily get cosy and enjoy some authentic Italian delights!

Thursday - Bell' Amico, West Byfleet
Ah a real coffee shop! With so many chain coffee places, don't you crave just a little more homeliness with your well-earned coffee and cake? Step forward Bell' Amico, a place that boasts genuinely delcious treats to accompany your hot beverage. Or why not try their home-made pasta, their freshly made pizza or sample some of the more exotic Italian fare they have to offer?

However, what sets Bell' Amico apart is the catering service. If you have any large party planned then Bell' Amico is certainly the place to cater for it. Their vast wealth of expertise and quality goods ranges from small and exquisite cakes to full Italian buffets, ice sculptures and decorations, all of which is handmade and personally arranged for every order! A service which, of course, you can save money on with your Good Time Guide Offer Card!

Friday - Bjorn Again at Dorking Halls
What with Mama Mia storming the box office and flooding book shops the world over, Bjorn Again must be laughing. Already the World's foremost ABBA tribute, having outlived the real band by a decade, their popularity has never waned and at this rate it never will! So it's a fantastic coup that they'll be frequenting Dorking Halls this Friday 12th February!

Endorsed by ex-members of the band, this is a rare chance to see a band that have played at Wembley Arena, so get your tickets sharpish! Click here to do just that! Stampede your way there for 8pm.

Saturday - Elvis at The Holiday Inn, Woking
ABBA followed by Elvis? Indeed. Well, not the real Elvis, I'm afraid to say he's dead (say most people). And it is officially for Valentine's Day (I apologise for lying to you earlier), but that can just be an excuse! The Holiday Inn in Woking will lay claim to this spectacular event, along with a three course dinner and disco that'll see you shake, rattle n' roll through your Saturday night.

For an extra £20, you can even spend the night and wake up to a full English, so no need to panic about the location of your car. Oh, and once again, you save 10% when mentioning your Offer Card when you book! And make sure you do book, you can't just show up on the evening! Click here for more info on what's sure to be an awesome night out.

Sunday - Tudor Lounge, Guildford
We're back on course for the non-Valentine's event; this is just a truly amazing place to enjoy a bite! While there's a delicious selection of jackets, sandwiches and other main meals to enjoy, what The Tudor Lounge is famous for (and if not, it should be!) is it's breakfasts. Eggy bread stacked with a thick pork sausage and bacon drizzled with maple syrup, anyone?

The Tudor Lounge is, of course, so much more. An evening here is provided for you in sophisticated surroundings with some of the best bar lighting in Guildford, so it's basically a fantastic new haunt if you fancy a drink. The afformentioned breakfast, though, is half price before 11am with your Good Time Guide Offer Card. Yes, we're plugging it again, but come on; wouldn't you prefer too much of a good thing than not enough? Get away from the smoochy couples and treat yourself to an amazing breakfast!
