Week Starting 12 April 2010

The Good Time Guide has a New-Look Website!

We do! Check it out here! The old homepage has now been replaced, so you can always keep tabs on the latest newsletters like this one, to ensure you're not missing out on any new events, testimonials and, of course, offers! It's all for you, people, and you can't help but notice those little Facebook and Twitter logos at the top either...

Now, with all the frivolities out of the way, let's get down to the serious business of what to do this week. Well, not THAT serious, but you know what we mean. Food, drink, comedy, drama, and vinyard visitations = variety! So away with the cheesy alliterations and on with the business of how to spend your precious leisure time this week...

Monday - Scriptease at The Electric Theatre, Guildford
Ah The Electric Theatre, one of the bastions of this great town. They do not disappoint, with a huge variety of performances; well worth constantly checking that handy link above. This Monday sees the return of the fantastic Scriptease, where the hidden gems of the play-script world are brought to their full glory by a group of hugely talented young writers and performers.

This time around it's the turn of Old Abe, using excerpts from the man himself to document his hugely important political career. This will be a poignant, insightful and humorous event, and often can you expect such an event on a Monday? The performance starts at 7.45pm; tickets are a fiver! Call 01483 444789 should you want to book beforehand.

Tuesday - Jimmy Carr: Rapier Wit at New Victoria Theatre, Woking
The man with the acid tongue is back in town, with a very appropriately named show! Jimmy Carr seems to be perpetually touring and his three day stint at Woking's New Victoria Theatre will confirm that - though he is an extremely funny man who doesn't play quite this locally too often!

So Mr Carr, brother of Allan (no not really, it's a running gag) will be performing between Monday 12th and Wednesday the 14th April. Click here to find out more and book your tickets! Oh, and as a little NB, if you're not a fan of Jimmy's, Dara O' Briain is playing on Thursday 15th!

Wednesday - The Boatman, Guildford
Now that April is finally delivering some Spring-like weather, THIS is the pub to visit. Placed right upon the banks of the River Wey, you can wistfully gaze at your drink and then out onto the picturesque scenery... just us? Well, The Boatman is an amazing pub in it's own right, so doe-eyed nostalgia aside, you will enjoy yourself coming down here.

The menu is brimming with fantastic pub grub, all made to the highest standards and sourced as locally as possible, and there's plenty of wine to accompany it! Moreover, there's real ales, a vast selection of wines and obligatory comfy chairs, so the traditional element remains! Click here to find out more about The Boatman.

Thursday - Beerex at Farnham Maltings
We at The Good Time Guide will always encourage responsible drinking; so be sure to spend your time at this show wisely! The legendary Farnham Beer Exhibition is something that will get most people giddy with excitement, so we simply had to shout it out. Starting on Thursday 15th and running through until Saturday 17th April, there's plenty of opportunity to experience this awesome annual event!

Taking place at Farnham Maltings, Farnham Beer Exhibition is an event renowned throughout the country, and further afield, for its excellent selection of real ales, ciders and perries. A great atmosphere, a long-standing reputation (it started way back in 1977) and good times... what we do peeps. Call Farnham Maltings' box office on 01252 745444 to find out more.

Friday - Surrey Sculpture Society at Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking
England's largest vinyard! And Denbies Wine Estate a great place to visit in these (hopefully) brighter days, but as it's an all-weather attraction, there's always something to do here! We recommend visiting today (or any other day before April 25th) as those fantastically talented folks down at the Surrey Sculpture Society have some of their brilliant works strewn across the vast landscape, adding a lovely touch to your wine-knowledge-increasing journey.

Want to find out more about what you can do at this lovely, sprawling landscape in Dorking? Click here to see the upcoming family events. Just because its a vinyard doesn't mean the kids aren't invited!

Saturday - The Three Pigeons, Guildford
You know this place, even if you don't know you know about it, you know? Poor grammatical jokes aside, The Three Pigeons is located at the top of Guildford High Street next to the George Abbott statue. Historically, this is something of a landmark. An aesthetically amazing place, with a real 'olde' look about it, you won't be disappointed when you step within either!

Having changed hands many times over recent years, The Three Pigeons has now gone back to basics and has been a fantastic success for some time now. Real ales, great food and an amazing interior will greet you inside, but don't worry; they still possess the mod cons we all demand (i.e. wi-fi). Call 01483 574 310‎ should you have any more questions about The Three Pigeons.

Sunday - Sunday Buffet at Beijing, Horsell
Fancy an alternative Sunday lunch? Here's an idea; Beijing Restaurant in the lovely village of Horsell (you could throw a stone from Woking and hit Horsell... but don't). Some of the best Chinese cuisine in the area is available here, and we all need a break from the obligatory roast from time to time don't we?

The beauty of the Beijing buffet is that, unlike other buffets, you choose dishes from the menu and then they are served at your table. For large parties a special menu can be designed and they will even arrange taxis home for you all! What service! We say call 01483 768788 or 01483 770988 and book your table for this Sunday!

Tip of The Week

il Rustico, Chobham

Fresh seasonal and authentic Italian cuisine. What's not to love? Moreover, il Rustico is situated on Chobham's Station Road, meaning it is both conveniently located right next to Woking and easy to find! We love it here and you should too!

What else? Well, il Rustico is both a restaurant and bona fide cafe, so you can pop down there for breakfast or a coffee should you fancy. However, the main menu is nothing short of excellent, so if you are just stopping by be sure to come back and enjoy some hearty Italian cuisine. All of this, combined with a warm, inviting and friendly decor means you shouldn't delay in booking your table at il Rustico on 01276 858384.
