Week Starting 15 February 2010
Thank Goodness...
...Valentine's is over! So we can all breathe a sigh of relief and perhaps be a little more selfish, do the things we want to do and spoil ourselves rather than think about those pesky boy/girlfriends or husbands/wives. Or, you know, you could do some of the following activities with them if you REALLY want. Of course, we at The Good Time Guide regularly source what we consider to be the best ways of spending your far-too-little free time, so really it's down to you, dear subscriber, what you choose to do. On that note, let's get cracking!
|
Monday - The Garden Restaurant, Farnham |
If you fancy some delicious home-made Italian or Mediterranean Cuisine, we can point you in the direction of Bishop's Table Hotel in Farnham. Therein lies The Garden Restaurant, a little taste of Italy right on your doorstep! You've got a Monday (or any other day for that matter) business lunch to organise? Here's the place to go! With a set £10 Lunch Menu, you can certainly afford to take an important client out.
For those of you longing for a lingering meal? Well the choice at The Garden Restaurant is vast. And you know what? It's very reasonably priced too! Click here and here to see what we mean! And it's even more reasonably priced when you show your Good Time Guide Offer Card, saving 10% on the Main Menu!

Tuesday - Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race in Guildford! |
How do you fancy seeing some local business members flipping pancakes and generally looking like a bit of a fool all the way down Guildford High Street? Us too! And if you're in a business, join in! Arrive with Eagle Radio's Peter Gordon at 12.30pm this Tuesday 16th Feb and watch people making fools of themselves for a good cause!
For those of you interested in taking part, entry's just £20 and proceeds will go to Charlotteville Jubilee Trust. At 2pm there'll be a Mascot Race as well; join Eggbert the Eagle and his fellow customed friends flip pancakes to little avail down the High Street! Click here to find out more about this great event.

Wednesday - Urban Night at Yates's Woking |
If you're into Hip Hop, Funk and House, this is the night for you! Yates's Woking, along with Sipod Dance, presents Boombox, and along with a whole bunch of old and new skool Hip Hop tunage, you can expect to see (and partake in if you wish!) some great street and break dancing to accompany said music. Entry's just £2 every Wednesday, Vodka Red Bull is £1.50 and you get a free jelly shot on arrival!
However, we recommend arriving at Yates's just a little earlier and having some good old pub grub to line your stomach for the evenings fun. Flash your trusty Good Time Guide Offer Card when spending over a tenner on food and drink and you get 15% off your bill! Click here to find out more about Boombox.

Thursday - Beauty and the Beast at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford |
The perfect treat for half term! We all love the story, and the Disney version is surely part of every young persons upbringing, so treat the kids to a live version of this classic tale at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre's Mill Studio. For those of you under-a-rock-dwellers who aren't familiar with the story, the quaint and cosy upbringing of Beauty is disturbed when her father unwittingly stumbles upon the world of the Beast, a monster who inhabits a terrifying and lavishly wealthy castle. Beauty agrees to move into the castle in place of her captured father, who slowly learns to love the Beast. Though that is very much the abridged version.
So what time and how much? Well the run's from Wednesday 17th to Saturday 20th should you not be able to go tonight, and is showing at 2.30pm and 7pm every day (not 2.30pm on the Wednesday). Tickets are £9, or £7 for the kids. Interested? Click here to find out more and book your tix!

Friday - The Rose Valley, Guildford |
Indian food and Friday Nights go together well, don't they? So let us recommend somewhere for your end of the week treat; The Rose Valley. Boasting a capacity of 150, this is always a lively bustling venue, and their cuisine, as you'd expect with a Good Time Guide affiliate, is top notch! After 45 years in the business, we think you can trust them.
A huge array of amazing Indo-Bangladeshi delights are on offer at Rose Valley, from the mild to the really, really hot, and there's a great choice of wine as well! Click here to see the menu, pay them a visit, and be satisfied with your decision.

Saturday - Never Mind the Buzzards with Chris Packham at Camberley Theatre |
Everyone remembers 'The Really Wild Show'; possibly the best kids animal program of the 80s and 90s (it won a BAFTA and ran for 20 years!), so this is a treat for everyone! Chris will inform, educate and regale us with his trademark enthusiasm for all things animal-y, along with some of the amazing photos he's taken over the years. Relaying decades of animal stories from a man who's becoming something of a national treasure sounds like a good Saturday evening out to us!
So head down to Camberley Theatre this Saturday and see a future knight of the realm (hopefully). The performance starts at 7.30pm; click here to find out more and book tickets!

Sunday - Zoe Lyons at Electric Theatre, Guildford |
WARNING: Content may not be suitable for under 16s or anyone with a weak constitution! So if you're easily offended, look away now! Zoe Lyons is one of the nation's rising stars of comedy, having appeared on Mock The Week several times as well as a huge array of TV and Radio shows that are too numerous to list here. And this Sunday she'll be headlining The Electric Theatre!
Zoe will be ably supported by John Newton, Andrew Wallace and MC Gareth Berliner, and this is one of those times you should visit because next time will be at a much bigger venue! £7.50 for an advanced ticket? We reckon you should book now!

Tip of The Week
Stitch and Bitch at The Keep, Guildford: Up for it?
Shameless plug first of all: 2 Winter Warmer Meals are just £10 when you flash your Good Time Guide Offer Card at The Keep. Now that that's over, let us inform you of another very interesting potential development at The Keep (and that title should have drawn you in!).
Those good people down at the distinctive pub on Castle Street have mooted the idea of a knitting and gossiping sesh for a regular catch-up. Perhaps weekly, perhaps monthly, their idea hasn't been enforced yet, and that's down to you; ya fancy it? If it sounds like something that's sorely needed in this area, contact The Keep now, or just call 01483 450600 if it's your drop! To find out what else is going on at The Keep, click here.
