Week Starting 30 November 2009

Good Times Indoors...

Crawling into a dark room, closing the door and turning off your mobile is not always a sign of social inadequacy. Sometimes it is just the polite thing to do. Obviously if you found yourself crawling into the Odeon on your hands and knees, it might indicate that you had indulged too much during happy hour at the cocktail bar next door. Probably best then to stay off the booze and just concentrate on your bucket of fizzy pop and pick 'n'  mix instead. As the nights draw in you can catch up with the latest that Hollywood has to offer.   We know that there are times when you can't face the chill of the outdoors. Not to worry - swaddle yourself in a duvet because there's plenty to watch on the small screen too. And if you can't hear the TV over your growling stomach, The Good Time Guide handpicked a great selection of takeaway food to choose from so that you can devote the whole night to entertainment and relaxation at home. Let's face it - food tastes so much better when you don’t have to cook it yourself.

Monday - "Shaun of the Dead" ITV1 @ 10.35pm

Saturday - "Public Enemies" available on DVD
You can't always catch every film that you want to see at the cinema. Sometimes little gems slip past without you even noticing. Don't let Michael Mann's stunning "Public Enemies" escape. Recently released on DVD with a whole host of bonus features, this film is a modern masterpiece. Trust us. We wouldn't fib. Set in Chicago in the 1930s, Johnny Depp stars as the true-life figure John Dillinger, the criminal mastermind behind a host of fearless bank robberies who hit the headlines and evaded the law. Frustrated by the public support that Dillinger garnered, the FBI sends in their top man Purvis, played by Christian Bale, to hunt him down and bring him to justice. This is crime epic that rewards every second you spend on it. Buy it, watch it, love it, watch it again and then give it to your brother for Christmas.

You'll want to tell everyone about "Public Enemies" after you've seen it. Gather them all together and enjoy the exotic taste of India in Farnham. The Darjeeling has undergone a vast refurbishment and offers a very modern Indian atmosphere. But if you want to just get everyone round and watch the film again, they also offer a takeaway service so you can feast on their freshly prepared dishes at home.

For more information visit the Darjeeling website HERE or give them a call on 01252 714322.

Sunday - Michael Jackson Tribute at Yates's Woking
And on the seventh day you rested (your eyes). Take a break from screen and enjoy a little more human interaction. So we recommend getting down to see Michael Jackson tribute act Navi takes centre stage this Sunday at Yates' in Woking.

We still have to do a double take slightly when we remember the great man is dead don't we? So, as a pre-Christmas treat, we recommend you rock your sparkly white glove and conspicuous white socks and have a nostalgia-based boogie. You know you want to, and after your "relaxation" week, it's definitely an idea to stretch your limbs. Tickets on the door, on the night, so be there quick to get your seat (not that you'll be sitting)...

Tip of The Week

3D

The first week of December means we just have to bring you a tip of the week with a festive feel. Take the kids, or borrow a nephew or niece if you feel like a conspicuous adult, and enjoy the Dickens classic, "A Christmas Carol." We all know the story but you certainly haven't experienced it like this before. Using the latest technology and motion capture animation, the troubling tale of Ebenezer Scrooge is brought to 3D life and literally leaps off the screen. Be showered in snowflakes and haunted by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. Starring Jim Carrey, Bob Hoskins, Colin Firth and Gary Oldman it has enough screen royalty to make even the most hardened bah humbugs enjoy themselves. A classic tale requires a classic setting and you won't find better than the art deco Odeon in Esher. Remember how cinemas used to be? Relive it in Esher whilst enjoying the comforts of a plush, modern interior. Stock up on your popcorn and grab your 3D specs. You don't look stupid in them. Honest.
