recommend the following places:
What's Going On in Guildford?
The King's Speech at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre
The film was more popular than Stephen Fry and Ben & Jerry's combined, and the stage production of The King's Speech - the world premiere of the original play which inspired the film, no less - will be taking place at Guildford's own Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. That's a very big deal.
Some extremely successful Thespians will be gracing the stage, including Jonathan Hyde as Lionel Logue and Joss Ackland as King George V, and the production runs from Thursday 2nd to Saturday 11th February - we strongly recommend you buy tickets. Click here to do just that.
Ghostpoet at Rubix, University of Surrey
Those of you who have amassed a large amount of cool points will be familiar with the brilliance of Ghostpoet, who's brand of alternative hip hop is literally - like any day now - about to become rather popular.
This ludicrously talented individual will be gracing Rubix on Surrey Uni's campus (but don't worry, all are welcome) on Monday 20th February - get in there now, for he'll be packing out enormous venues sooner rather than later.
Don't be foolish and procrastinate now - click here for tickets.
Guildford Shakespeare Company Presents: Richard III
Guildford Shakespeare Company frequently cause quite a stir with their magnificent productions of some of the Bard's classics. This time around, it's Richard III, taking place between 10th – 25th February at Holy Trinity Church.
One of Shakespeare's most celebrated and complex tragedies, it's synopsis is based around the short and brutal reign of the eponymous king... as if you didn't know. Should you wish to find out more, dear reader - and we heartily recommend you do - click here.
Guildford Choral Society Present Handel's 'Messiah' at Guildford Cathedral
Guildford Choral Society are an extremely highly regarded collection of musicians and singers, and their performances are always hugely popular - hence the early warning (at the time of going to press) for their take on Handel's Messiah:
"Messiah is Handel’s best-loved oratorio because of the richness and variety in the music. Although often performed at Christmas it was originally intended for Lent and Easter - the time of this concert. The drama of the work is evident in the exuberance of the great choruses, including the Hallelujah Chorus and the tenderness of the melodies in the arias such as “I know that my Redeemer liveth”. The Hanover Band and their authentic period instruments will provide an added dimension to this performance."
This event takes place at Guildford Cathedral on Saturday 17th March - to get tickets and find out more, click here.
From this Earth: Historical and Contemporary Ceramics at Guildford House Gallery
Guildford House Gallery is something of a local landmark, a 17th century town house at the top of Guildford High Street that boasts hundreds of peoples through it's doors daily. With exhibitions such as this, it's not difficult to see why folks. 'From this Earth' runs until March 2012 - let's here what it's about:
"At Guildford Museum From this Earth displays include some of the medieval and Tudor kitchen and table ware excavated at Farnborough Hill and other sites, destined for local and London use.
From this Earth is also showcasing the talents of emerging ceramic artists locally trained at the University for the Creative Arts Farnham, who have created innovative work inspired by the heritage of our local medieval and Tudor ceramics industry - but also the two historic buildings where From this Earth will be shown: Guildford Museum which in part dated back to the 15th century, and Guildford House Gallery built in 1660 for a wealthy layer and his family."

Guildford Information
Guildford has so much to offer beyond the ordinary. How about taking a hot air balloon ride if you are a fan of dizzying heights, or there’s Guildford’s ghost tour for enthusiasts of the macabre? Consider yourself a bit of a dancer? Why not spend an evening at one of the numerous venues offering live music. If you prefer to stay in your seat while being musically titillated you should attend one of the philharmonic orchestra’s concerts.
We would happily eat out every night of the week at the fabulous array of restaurants and welcoming public houses if only our wallets would let us (sob sob). To top this off these places look pretty damn fine thanks to the wealth of beautiful historic buildings and lush open spaces. That just leaves us to say that morn or night, whatever takes your fancy, chances are you will be able to do it here.
