What's Going On in Reigate and Redhill?
First World War Re-enactment Event at Reigate Fort.
June the 16th and 17th sees the return of the National Trust's famous Great War Experience days. Held at Reigate Fort, the event will capture the imagination of all ages.
With the help of the 10th Essex Great War Living History Group, Reigate Fort will be transported back to 1916, the height of the Great War. There will be presentations and demonstrations all centering around the day-to-day realities of life on the front line. There are rations to try, uniforms to don and a chance to view the weapons used daily by the troops.
Tickets are £5 for adults and £2.50 for kids and the event runs on each day from 10:30am until 4pm. Who would have thought war would make for a fantastic family day out? So pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and march onwards to the fort.
Embrace the Purple at Mayfield Lavender
Now that Spring is finally springing (although at the time of typing, the sky is a foreboding shade of yuk), this is the perfect way to spend a day outside. Mayfield Lavender in Banstead opens at the beginning of June, and it's a truly wonderful place.
A 25 acre lavender field in the North Surrey Hills, the fields are a sight to behold, and it's free to enter. Naturally, frolicking in the fields is all well and good, but the organically produced plant is grown for a purpose. Namely, all of this.
The best time to visit this purple haven is the Spring and Summer - get ready to grab a camera and look wistful. Should you want more information, come hither.
Fanny's Farm Shop, Merstham
The kind of venue that makes TGTG slightly giddy, Fanny's Farm Shop lies in Merstham, just outside of Redhill and is just an utter delight. Having been around since 1979, it's fair to say the shop is an unbridled success, and you shall see why upon arrival.
As their lovely site states, there is a glut (love that word) of fresh veg, flowers and other seasonal produce, as well as cakes, marmalade, eggs and sausages. Mmm. Sausages.
Anyway, they also provide seasonal treats, so there's something for you all year round - and much more besides. Best to just check out their website and find out more, really...
Reigate and Redhill Information
Redhill and Reigate promise to satisfy both those with a thirst for high-octane adventures and those pre-disposed to relaxation.
Thrill seekers, are you paying attention? If you have always had the urge to fly (and no we don’t mean you with your superhero delusion) why not treat yourself to some lessons at the Redhill aerodrome? For subterranean escapades we can whole-heartedly recommend you spend some time exploring the nooks and crannies in Reigate’s caves on one of the guided tours. And with water sports activities on offer at Mercers Lake and mountain boarding at Priory Farm we think these towns cover most extreme adrenalin rushes.
Prefer keeping your feet firmly on the ground? Try kite flying in Priory Park or picnicking on top of Reigate Hill. Just remember to wrap up all toasty warm; we wouldn’t want you to catch a chill.
