Overview
The Harvey Gallery came into being in September 1979, the brainchild of the then Head of the Visual Arts Department. Initial funding came from the Adult Education Centre, whose Principal saw the potential of a student-run, student-supported gallery. It was created with the assistance of students and staff alike. Since that time the Gallery has held 15 exhibitions each year, covering a wide variety of visual arts.
Very early on it earned a reputation for innovation, actively encouraging first-time exhibitors, as well as practising artists. The Gallery continues to this day to be a showcase not only for professional artists, but also for local students venturing into the world of displaying their talents, a facility not available in most adult learning establishments. The Harvey Gallery celebrated their Silver Jubilee in 2004.
